Weary Weekend plus Recovery

So it began with Avery and the stomach bug… then turned into the Warf Plague all weekend… then Monday, we were feeling a little better but still recovering… and Silas and Avery had their four-year-old check-up at the pediatrician's office.  They were all smiles with the assistant to give their vitals (Doc McStuffins has done wonders in preparation for check-ups!).  They both checked out perfectly healthy - Silas is 99th percentile in height and 96th in weight… and Avery is 65th, both growing and checking milestones off the list! (way too quickly if you ask me!!)

At four years old, kids get their booster shots… 4 of them…  and I didn't feel comfortable with them receiving shots so soon after being so sick (and to be honest, I wasn't feeling up to comforting sore arms and cranky kiddos after that Plague), so our pediatrician was so nice to tell us just to pop back in the clinic next week for the shots.

Boy, am I glad that we didn't go ahead with the shots… Tuesday night, Avery sort of relapsed… and wan't any better Wednesday or Thursday (and visits to doctor daily for more zofran and zantac)… and Avery kept saying her tummy hurt. She really hadn't eaten in a week and couldn't keep Pedialyte down.  So after work on Thursday, we decided she needed to go to the hospital… this poor girl felt horrible.  This is 7pm on Thursday in the Baptist ER.

As expected, they started IV fluids… two bags… and after mommy finally figured out how to get Dora on the iPad, she showed her first smile in a few days at 11pm:
Long story short, fluids made her feel a little better, but she continued to complain of a tummy ache "so bad" and couldn't stop throwing up… so they did more fluids with more meds… then a CT at 3am which was inconclusive (couldn't rule out) for appendicitis… so we were off to Batson Children's hospital… arrived at 5am.

The sweet nurse admitted us and avery finally got a little rest… she awoke at 7am and demolished two popsicles.  Her first food in several days…

No one knows or can explain it, but she began to feel better as the morning went on… and by the afternoon, she was literally running down the hall on the 4th floor of Batson singing.  Her tummy hurt "a little", but she began to eat and obviously looked and felt so much better.  Here is my Avery that I hadn't seen in 4 days:

We spent Friday night at Batson to monitor her improvement and went home Saturday morning with her feeling just fine…
(an aside:  Of course they had to put us in the bulldog room…)

Silas actually had a really hard time with her being in the hospital… he was worried sick and kept asking Bruce, "but Daddy, it's dark outside, the doctor is closed… why does Avery go to the doctor?" He did come visit on Friday and after he saw she was okay, he was okay.  So sweet.  And I must add that in the ER when Avery felt so badly, she kept asking "where's Silas? Sue Sue got Silas?" They have such a special bond that only twins can know.

She loved the hospital - more than anyone I've heard of (and I doubt she remembers much of the ER).  But hey, she had breakfast in bed, movies on demand, juice box on command, ice cream any time of the day, and Mommy sleeping in her bed all night… silly girl.  I'm just so thankful and glad she is better.
We arrived at home and Silas had been wanting my attention for the whole week… and we had two tickets to the Ole Miss game… so he and I headed up to Oxford for some quality time.  Silas was beyond excited!
and of course he had a LARGE time.

We returned to the pediatrician later the next week for Avery's follow-up… and their booster shots…
here we are, vaccinated and yogurated…. thank goodness for Orange Leaf!!

And to finish out the week, we loved having dinner with our cousins the Koonces and Shannons!
We're so excited sweet Henry will live close to us soon!

And these two.  FaceTime is a blast.  (yes, we do live in the same town).
